Recreational hunters targeting Himalayan tahr can now record and submit their hunting contributions using a new mobile phone App.

The App, designed by the Game Animal Council and the Department of Conservation, makes it easy for hunters to record their hunting efforts and contribute valuable information on the Himalayan tahr herd. The information gained from the App presents an opportunity for the tahr hunting community to prove the value of recreational hunting and make a positive contribution to animal management.

The greater the uptake of the App, the more accurate the data, the better the outcomes will be for recreational hunters in future tahr management programmes.

No individual results or personal information are held by either the Department of Conservation or the Game Animal Council. Return data is downloaded and aggregated on a daily basis with only the accumulated information available to the DOC and GAC at a management unit level.
