Role: Game Animal Council Policy and Project Advisor (Full time permanent)
Location: Home-based with flexible hours and occasional travel

If so, the Game Animal Council is seeking an experienced Policy and Project Advisor to support the delivery of its statutory responsibilities and functions and provide you with a truly rewarding and unique opportunity.
About the role
The New Zealand Game Animal Council is a statutory organisation established under the Game Animal Council Act 2013. We provide leadership, policy, advice, and practical tools to support sustainable game animal management and recognise and provide for our hunting communities across New Zealand.
As Policy and Project Advisor, you will support the CEO in the development, coordination and delivery of key policies and projects including:
- Game animal management
- Hunter education
- Food safety and security
- Biosecurity
- Commercial hunting
- Animal welfare
- Voluntary codes of conduct and certification
You’ll also contribute to the preparation of Council meeting papers, engage with iwi and stakeholders, and ensure project delivery aligns with the Council’s strategic priorities and the Game Animal Council Act 2013.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking someone who is:
- Proactive, motivated, and organised, with excellent time management skills to consistently meet goals and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, from a home base, while contributing to a collaborative team culture.
- An effective communicator, comfortable in writing, public speaking, and stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborative and adaptable, with the ability to build respectful relationships and work across diverse communities and perspectives.
- A clear and analytical thinker, able to distil complex ideas into accessible recommendations.
You’ll also bring:
- Strong skills in policy development, project coordination, and report writing.
- Experience and/or tertiary qualifications in relevant fields such as game animal management, food safety, biosecurity, policy, project management, animal welfare, and/or education.
- Sound knowledge of government processes, the legislative landscape, and inter-agency relationships.
- An understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and their relevance to conservation and game animal management would be an advantage.
- At least 5 years’ experience in policy, project management, or the public sector
- High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort using digital tools to collaborate remotely.
