New Zealand offers some of the best hunting in the world. With alpine snowy mountains, vast plains and dense forest, we have beautiful, challenging and rewarding hunting opportunities that will fulfil everyone’s wish list.
The rugged terrain and fickle weather means hunting here can be quite different to many overseas environments. This presents a heightened safety risk for hunters who are unprepared. We also have different rules when it comes to important considerations including access, firearms and biosecurity.
If you’re an international hunter heading to New Zealand, we encourage you to complete the Welcome to Hunting in New Zealand module on Better Hunting and familiarise yourself with the unique aspects of hunting in New Zealand.
The learning module has been developed with support from the New Zealand Professional Hunting Guides Association (NZPHGA) and covers:
- Essential regulations, permissions and compliance requirements, including firearms, permits and land access.
- The differences and dangers of New Zealand’s terrain and weather.
- Hunting and outdoor safety expectations.
- New Zealand’s conservation and game management environment.
- Biosecurity considerations.
Welcome to Hunting in New Zealand is available here.
